FREPI: Recyclability of our products

Aim of the project :

To help develop PPE recycling industries in France

FREPI: a potential recycling industry for Very High Visibility* PPE
Coverguard has joined forces with other industry players (colleagues, customers and other players in the downstream sector) to form the FREPI project.

FREPI is a cross-disciplinary collective project co-directed by OREE and co-funded by ADEME, the aim of which is to determine whether it is technically possible and financially viable to create a recycling channel for Very High Visibility PPE.

Supervised by the FREPI project, laboratory tests will make it possible to :

  • study different techniques for separating materials: reflective tape, press studs, zips, marking, lining, etc.
  • identify and characterise the recycled material and its reusability.

The project plans to produce a white paper, freely accessible to the general public, with recommendations and guidelines for ecodesigning very high visibility PPE and facilitating recycling from the design stage.

*To date, there is no recycling system in France for Very High Visibility PPE, which represents a huge source of unrecycled waste (converted, in the best of cases, into Solid Recovered Fuel).
